A great result against weaker, but not necessarily poor, opposition.
It was nice to get our first clean sheet, although OB didn't have a single save to make. Defensively we looked very sound, with the boys covering eachother well and winning their tackles comfortably.
They looked strong in the tackle and when protecting the ball.
Thomas just scores goals. He knows where the goal is and drives towards it- he would work very well in either role in a 2 striker pairing in 11-a-side.
Joe, Isaac, Charlie and Harry all got their first goals of the season and all deservedly so.
We were 1-0 up after the first period and the boys really listened to what we said, dropping deeper to receive the ball and playing on the turn.
Joe in particular impressed with his upturn in performance and got his goal after a few chances.
Harry came on in the second period and changed the game completely. He protected the ball brilliantly, drove for the byline relentlessly and created numerous chances, picking up a goal and 2 assists.
Some of the play, particularly in the second and third periods, was breathtakingly good.
We hit the woodwork 5 times and created upwards of 30 chances throughout the match.
What I want to work on is the idea of coming deeper to receive the ball and playing it round the corner for the supporting player.

Set pieces account for roughly a third of all goals in football, yet many coaches spend surprisingly little time coaching defensive organisation at corners and free kicks. A player's first touch determines everything that follows: whether they can play forward, turn, or simply retain the ball. This article explores why training first touch in isolation is not enough, and how to design sessions that develop this critical skill under realistic game pressure.
