Basingstoke Town FC 2-2 Andover U9s.
Goals; Thomas, George.
Assists; Isaac, George.
MOTM;
Gold- Isaac
Silver- OB
Bronze- George
A great draw against our toughest opposition yet. We opened the scoring in the first period, with Thomas firing home after some great play from Will and George down the left.
Just before the whistle blew at the end of the second period, we grabbed our second of the game, with Isaac setting up George will a ball round the corner, who in turn fired in to the far corner of the goal.
Charlie had to leave at this point, giving us a backs-against-the-wall job for the remaining 17 minutes. The biggest difficulty the team faced was having no outlet to play the ball out to when cleared. Unfortunately, the opposition scored from a direct FK and from a corner spilled by OB. OB was unlucky as there were a lot of players in the vicinity and he had kept us in the game a number of times. Isaac also headed off the line at 2-1 to keep the lead.
The boys played with heart, desire and a pace that we haven't seen before and a 2-2 draw was probably fair, although it would have been nice to get the win.
We still struggle defending set-pieces and fail to capitalise on our own, with Isaac missing the target from a number of Charlie long-throws and a few corners that could have falled nicer for one of the attackers.

A player's first touch determines everything that follows: whether they can play forward, turn, or simply retain the ball. This article explores why training first touch in isolation is not enough, and how to design sessions that develop this critical skill under realistic game pressure.
