The passing sequence that must be followed is;
1st Pass – Central Midfielder to Centre Forward
2nd Pass – Centre Forward back to the Centre Midfielder
3rd Pass – Centre Midfielder to Widest Player
4th and 5th Passes – Wall pass between Wide Midfielder and team mate closest to them
6th Pass – Cross into Area
As many passes as possible should be played first time or with a maximum of 2 touches to ensure the passing movement flows and does not lose momentum.
Shooting
Approach - Their runs should be curved, one player heads for the front post, the other to the back. The player at the back should be slightly deeper and not square.
Timing - The central players should look to arrive as the ball does and ideally not before it (and definitely not after it!)
Attitude - Positive attitude towards scoring
Technique - Included within technique are;
Accuracy - Players should not just focus on power. It is essential they hit the target in order to score. Therefore encourage accuracy first.
Height - The height of any shot will be highly dependent on the positioning of the goalkeeper. If a chip or high shot is realistic then it should not be deterred. In general though, it is harder for goalkeepers to save low efforts and the possibility of rebounds back into the danger area occurring increases with low shots.
Area of Goal - This should be based on the attacker’s observation. Far post generally, but once again this is highly dependent on the goalkeepers positioning. If aimed towards the back post then the possibility of rebounds back into the danger area increases and therefore enhances the chance of an attacker that is following up getting on the end of it.
Disguise - Can you encourage the shooter to disguise their shot in order to conceal their true intentions and increase the possibility of scoring.
Follow Ups - Team mates of the shooting player should be aware of any shots that may occur and be prepared to pounce on any rebounds or deflections that present themselves.
