This Drill has been used from u7 upwards, it is based on game situations where kids breaking from midfield with no defenders in front of them have the tendecy to panic and shoot quickly from far out, when its clear they have alot more time to compose themselves and get near the goal, henc improving a goalscoring opportunity.
Cones are placed in 3 areas around the edge of the area (Mini Soccer, use your descretion for higher levels), the 3 attackers start on half way or just inside, player 1 goes first, if they are right footed they are advised to move to point A in the middle box, this points out the probable best position for shooting, if they are left footed they are advised to head straight for point B in the left box, Player 2 is instructed similarly based on their choice of foot they either chooose point A or B in the middle box, Player 3 follows suit again dependent of choice of shooting foot either Left footed middle box point B or Right footed point A in the right hand box.
Progression.
Defenders can be added to either chase to provide pressure or actually defend with full contact.
Every outfield player can have a go ate both roles, it helps on both attack and defence.
The 3 forwards need to be confident enough to move forward to the selected shooting position, but also do so with the correct footwork dependant on surface they should be taught to appreciate the first touch can give them a fantastic advantage other any defender.
Look for attackers not panicking and shooting way before they reach the box, keep praising them even if they fail to hit the target, finishing will come with game time experience!
getting in a position to actually give themselves a better chance of scoring is key here.
Make them choose the correct foot for the situation.
Encourage the players to shoot across the GK, any contact from the Gk could play the ball out into the path of either a charginf defender (force an own goal) or a supporting Forward.
Look for them panacking when on the progression the defender is added, continue to encourage.
