Multi-Lateral - Without Ball - Physical Literacy (Balancing & Landing)

The 'My Stuff' feature is amazing! It's a coach's best friend!

DESCRIPTION

Balancing & Landing

  • Players will jump forwards from a standing start onto one foot, holding for a count of two, before returning to the starting position. (Players will need to do this with both feet)
  • Players land as if they are volleying a ball. The non-standing leg should be straight ahead of them (see diagram)

Progression:

  • Players are in pairs and imagine they are standing in the centre of a big clock face, facing 12 o'clock.
  • One player rests and the other works. The resting player will call a time e.g. 8 o'clock. The player jumps and makes sure their left foot is pointing to 8 o'clock; they should hold for two seconds then jump step back to the
start. Now the player asks another time e.g. 4 o'clock. The player then changes foot and jumps to 4 o'clock.
  • Players can progress by having their hands on their head as they land or hands behind their back.

Coaching Points:

  • Point toes forward
  • Use arms to balance
  • Keep a neutral posture
  • Standing leg should have a triple extension (ankle, knee, hips)
