U12s not training and runing it for the others?

Hi, when I take my under 12's for training, they do a warm up couple of laps of the pitch. Out of a squad of 13, I only get 7/8 doing the warm up properly, while the same 5/6 always ruin it by half running half walking. Any tips?

You could do your warm ups with the ball more; start with small-sided game, keep the tempo slow until they are warmed up. Under 12s want to "play" not train!

This is a good warm up game that you can tailor to suit what you are working on at training that week (see below).

Any players who don't work hard can be taken out individually for you to have a quiet word with them.

Handball Game - No running with the ball!

Description:

5 vs 5 game (can be played with or without goals).

Game 1:

Possession keeping game where all passing is with the hands by throwing and catching. Teams score a point for every 10 passes they make without losing the ball.

Game 2:

Alternatively you can play this game with goals. All passes must be made with the hands (players can't run with the ball in hand) and players can only score with a header.

Coaching Points:

Game starts with a centre throw. Offside rule applies in game 1.

The fact that the ball carrier cannot run with the ball in hand means the other players will all need to move a lot to create space.

The opposition team can intercept the pass or collect loose balls but can't tackle a player with the ball in the hand.

because its boring. get them engaged in small sided games that are more match realistic

Surprised to find my U10 team buying in to the FIFA 11+ warm-up (I just use part 1) I told them we were going to start using "The OFFICIAL FIFA warm up!!" Not a complaint in sight and they all participate

Running kids around a pitch at their age has no benefit at all to them. Engage them with some dynamic stretching whilst moving across the pitch, and make it fun, the split them into pairs for some ball work or play some small sided games (possession related or with goals involved). Introduce challenges for individual players etc.
