Rebound Line

Players line up on 3 point line. Throw ball against the backboard and roll away. Next player jumpst to take the rebound and throws it against the backboard again for the next player.

Rebound

Rebound Outlet Drill

2 lines of players, one in front of the basket. The other by the sideline. Basketballs will be in the line in front of the basket. Players in this line will throw the ball up at the backboard, jump as high as they can to rebound the ball. Once they land, they will do a forward pivot and throw a overhead pass to the outlet line on the side.

Rebound

Rebound rotation

Red Players are defenders The coach shoots the ball, at the point it leaves his hand then he will call "rotate left" or "right" and the defenders have to rotate in the given direction before trying to "box out" the attackers.

Rebound

Rebound Stage 1

Face the basket throw the ball against the backboard. Catch the ball off the backboard whilst you are in the air. Land facing the basket, legs apart and with a solid base.

Rebound

Rebound Stage 2

Catch the ball rebounding from the basket, plant your feet and prepare to pass down-court.

Rebound

Rebound Stage 3

Make the rebound, drive wide from under the basket, and make a pass down-court.

Rebound

Rebound Stage 4

Make the rebound and drive down-court before making a pass.

Rebound

Rebound Stage 5

Once an offensive player has made a shot, turn and block them getting between you and the basket so that you can make the rebound before them.

Rebound

Rebound Timing Drill(i)

Players line up as shown. Toss ball up on backboard for yourself. Jump up and grab a defensive rebound. Pass to next player in line, join back of other line.

Rebound

Rebound to outlet

Stand about 2 meters from the basket. Toss the ball up to the rim simulate a shot. Jump and rebound the ball. Outlet the ball to a wall or a toss bag. Do this drill 10 times.

Rebound

Rebounding - roll off a block out

Rolling off a blockout is used to gain a good position for offensive rebounding. The player gets around the defender by turning, pulling around. Player goes back to back with defender then continues to turn taking on long side step around defender so defender left behind. Go up for the rebound. Repeat 10 times on both sides of the board and rolling clockwise and anti clock wise around defender. This practise can be done with a defender or as a shadow drill individually.

Rebound

Rebounding and the block

Get into a defensive stance off and towards the ball. Pretend a shot is about to be taken. Go find the man quickly and make contact with a block out. Do not turn your back on your opponent until the last possible moment. Stay side on to your offensive player making contact with your nearside hand and forearm. Once you have initiated the contact then you will use a forward or reverse pivot to block out depending on which way he chooses to go around you.   The block out is not about holding the man off the board indefinitely it is about you being in between the man you are guarding and the basket when the ball comes off. Do the block out simulation drill to the blockout on each side of the basket 10 times alternating forward pivot and reverse pivot. As with any play towards the basket, chin the ball after the rebound. Even thought you do this drill without the ball simulate the chinning. Practice different scenarios to the rebound like denying the ball at the wing and helping out and recovering to block your man when the shot is taken.

Rebound

UCLA Rebound Drill

Player 1 will toss ball onto the backboard – get a defensive rebound using all good fundamentals Player 4 will signal and call for ‘outlet pass’. Player 1 pivots and makes a good chest or overhead pass, then following their pass and joining ‘outlet’ line. Player 4 passes to Player 2 and follows their pass to join the rebounding line.
