Rondo with 2 v 2 in Middle

DESCRIPTION

Setup

  • Setup 2 15 x 15 yard square
  • Split team into 2 equal teams
  • Attacking team will have 2 players in the middle and can have as many player on the outside of the square as needed
  • Defending team has two players in the middle

Rules

  • 3 Touch game for attacking players on outside of grid
  • Unlimited touches for players in middle
  • Attacking team scores a point by having their middle player switch the ball from one side to the other. 
  • Passes from the middle player back to same side or wide sides are not a point
  • Outside players can pass to each other and keep possesion but cannot score points
  • Defensive players score a point by winning ball and playing into mini-goal (if not available defensive players can score by dribbling out of grid)
  • Play for a 1 minute and then switch defenders
  • Keep a running score

Progression

  • Change touch limits
  • Change time limit for defending
  • Limit group to a certain amount of balls for their turn 
  1. Team gets two balls to score as many points as they can and once defenders eliminates balls they can no longer score

 

COACHING POINTS

Coaching Points

  • Positioning of attacking center midfielders to open and receive balls to switch attack
  • Defensive positioning of center midfielders to cut out passing lanes and still get pressure on their player they are marking
  • Being patient on the ball and understanding when to keep it 
  • Quickly finding outlet passes off turnovers
