Soccer or Football Lessons for 9-11 year olds

What activities work well for students aged 9-11? For some context I am a PhysEd teacher in Australia and classes consist of 25-30 students. Thanks!

Hi Lucy,

There are a few things to remember when coaching soccer to such a large class of students. Here is a list of things we would recommend.

  • Plan: Structure sessions with clear objectives.
  • Warm-Up: Engage kids with dynamic warm-ups.
  • Skills: Teach basic skills through drills.
  • Small-Sided Games: Maximise participation and touches.
  • Positive Reinforcement: Encourage effort and improvement.
  • Fun: Use imaginative activities to keep it enjoyable.
  • Safety: Ensure a safe environment and fair play.
  • Inclusivity: Adapt coaching for all abilities.

By focusing on these key points, you can effectively coach soccer to a large class. I have also attached one of our session plans below which is a great plan for keeping the lesson fun and help improve students of all abilities.

I hope this helps,
