Hello Nigel
I too and currently doing my Level 2 and just completed the initial part of the course, which sounds very much like where your at. The FA Tutors have asked us to do 12 sessions of which like you say 4 must be linked. Spookily I have chosen the same as John and have taken his points on board. I chose Defending with the four being linked, and then was going to chose 8 random ones, in case I got them on my final assessment, this way it will give me some practice.
Hi Nigel,
It really depends on which subject you have chosen for your linked sessions, can you post what your subject matter is and perhaps I can help.
If for example you have defending, you may well begin with (1)1v1-2v2smallsided
(2) Defending in-balance (paying attention to the goalkeepers role in aiding position and encouraging the defenders in front when to hold and when to tackle).
(3) Defending out of balance (emphasis on position sliding across and anglesto discourage the pass)
(4)Breaking the block. (Ephasise the need when in posession of good positions e.g. full-backs to the sideline as soon as goalkeeper has the ball. This encourages quick distribution and offers a release of pressure by allowing you to move out of defence more rapidly.
Hope this is helpful to you Nigel. and good luck with your Level 2
It really is about common sense. If its an Attacking topic then you start with the GK. If its a defending topic you start with the strikers.
The Key Factors of all topics should be memorised and experience of each in practical terms is a goal to aim for in your rehearsals.
Just like learning to drive, you must convince the ASSESSOR you are competent in coaching at Level 2 and NOt convince your coach educator (who ISNT assessing you)
In game coaching is all about following the structure that assessors want to see.
For the coach, its about Technique on the ball employed, Support for the ball player, then what the furthest players are doing. We call this AT THE BALL (technique), NEAR THE BALL (support play), AWAY FROM THE BALL (end product)
in more ways than one
Set pieces account for roughly a third of all goals in football, yet many coaches spend surprisingly little time coaching defensive organisation at corners and free kicks. This article compares zonal and man marking systems, explores hybrid approaches, and provides a practical session structure for building set piece resilience into your team.
A player's first touch determines everything that follows: whether they can play forward, turn, or simply retain the ball. This article explores why training first touch in isolation is not enough, and how to design sessions that develop this critical skill under realistic game pressure.
