Drill ideas to keep 35 under 7s entertained?

Help, I coach over 35 6 year olds and am looking for new drills to keep them all entertained. They don't like standing in lines waiting to do things! Help!!! Cheers

Hi Martin, first piece of advice is get some help! This is too many players for one person to coach! How about a few parents or players from the older teams in your club?

As for ideas how about a game of "sleeping giant" to work on their dribbling, good for large groups.

Sleeping Giant

Description:

Set up an area as shown with the coach (sleeping giant) in one end surounded by cones (gold coins). The players are at the other end and they have 1 ball each.

While the sleeping giant is asleep the players can move towards him/her, as soon as the sleeping giant awakes they have to stop and be still, if they are caught moving the sleeping giant can chase them back to the start.

If players get to the sleeping giant they pick up a gold coin and run back to the starting area to store it.

Coaching Points:

Emphasis on close control and ensure players keep their head up while dribbling and moving with the ball.

Highlight the importance of awarness so they do not get caught moving as the giant awakes.

Can they show good changes of pace (taking bigger touches instead of close control) when they need to get away from the giant.

Hi thanks for the reply. Dont worry i dont coach them all on my own, im not that mad !  There are 5 coaches in all (its just extremely noisy as you can imagine!)

That looks a great drill, will give it a go this weekend

Thanks

How about a netball style drill. On small groups of 3-5, 1 ball between each group they have to get it from one end of pitch to other. only rule child with call cannot move. Start with the picking up and holding the ball then progress to passing. Great drill for teaching pass and move.

you could always use pirate ship. the whole group run from one end of pitch to other while you do a side foot along the ground with ball. if anybody gets hit they join you with a ball on the side. last one left wins. 10 would be enough for this one.
