what is the coaching point

ANSWERS
Matt MorrisonPlayer, England

Hi Dave,

I would say that the important points for the keeper to focus on are:

  • Watching the ball all the way from the throwers hand.
  • The keeper should have their hands together, fingers pointing down and palms facing towards the ball as they approach the stumps.

It also promotes the need for the `keeper to come up to the stumps when the ball is played into the ring, in case the batsmen try and take a quick single. If the `keeper hangs back the fielder will have to hit the stumps directly, but if the `keeper comes up to the stumps, there is also the chance he/she could catch the throw and take the bails off.
