I am having problems getting players to train consistently. We have a very good coaching staff with a variety of drills to peak their interest. However, players still do not have the hunger or passion to train consistently at the highest level. What can we do to solve this problem as I have just had an emergency meeting.
I`ve also faced this problem Clay, sometimes coaches can come in from a higher standard of competition and player commitment and find their ideas and values are much greater than their new players are accustomed to. Other times it is because players aren`t motivated and as hard as a coach tries not much changes.
But you can approach from a different direction.
Empower your players Clay. Give them the task of designing and running some of the sessions.Get them involved with their training and the decision making on sessions. Make them responsible for some aspects of their training.
But there are ways and better ways of attempting this.
Empowerment of your players can only be achieved by your people management skills. It isn`t something you can force on your players, it`s up to you, the coach to create the an atmosphere where empowerment can flourish.
Sometimes you have to be a psychologist to enable your players to develop. Spend time getting to know them personally and find out what their ambitions, strengths and weaknesses are. Once you know them better you can work out how to help them become better players and probably more importantly, better people.
Create a resolution to develop your coaching confidence by seizing the opportunity to discover new drills, turn ideas into action and seek advice from the coaching community.
