how to play on drive

how to play on drive like babar azam

Hi,

When looking to develop the on drive, it's important you work from your feet up, making sure you're getting into a good, set position to play the shot from.

This On Drive from Set Position drill is perfect for developing balance and transfer of weight to play the on drive.

Try not to over hit the ball and look to improve timing in a balanced manner rather than looking purely for power.

I hope this helps!

Description:

*AUDIO DESCRIPTION ON*

  • Set up two cones half way down the wicket, one central and one leg side.
  • Feed from around the wicket with a bobble feed.
  • Batter to hit from the on drive set position, knees and feet facing down the wicket, and aiming for the two cones.
  • Back lift over first/second slip, hit a straight line through the ball to the target area.
  • Batter to hold the shape, and take small steps towards the direction of the shot to the cone.

Coaching Points:
  • Ensure feet and knees are facing down the wicket. "Laces down the wicket".
  • Shoulder out of the way for an open chest. Easier to go from open to close rather than close to open.
  • Head over the front foot.

On Drive shot is played on front foot towards between mid wickt and mid on, the ball which is over pitched between leg and middle stump.

Rule to play: Eye focused on ball, head still and body weight transfer to the front leg bending knee.
