The player starts on the service line and is fed 3 balls in a row at different heights to the backhand side. The player must execute a backhand volley from each of these feeds.

Coach, 4 players, 3 targets, and a basket of tennis balls. Player 1 starts off on the centre of the baseline. Coach feeds ball 1 to the corner of the singles court for player 1 to play a cross court backhand to target 1. Coach feeds ball 2 to the opposite side of the court just in front of service box for player 1 to run on to and play a short cross court forehand at target 2. Coach feeds ball to the centre of the opposite service box for player 1 to run on to and play a backhand volley to target 3. Player 1 joins the queue. Drill repeated with player 2/3/4.

Player stands on his/her right leg on the service line. Coach feeds balls to the player's forehand side. Player hops to the ball on one leg and hits a forehand volley back to the coach.

Players volley co-operatively to each other but with their non racket hand behind their back at all times. For larger groups this drill can be done in groups of four players with one ball moved around between the 2 pairs.

  Player serves wide from the deuce side. Coach throws a short and high ball to the deuce side. Player moves forward and hits an offensive forehand drive volley to the center of the court.

Coach stands in front of the player. Coach throws a low ball to the forehand side. Player steps forward and alternates catching/throwing the ball back to coach and hitting low forehand volley back to coach.

Working on volleys should be incorporated in the early stages of learning tennis It is not purely about volleying well but it is about not being scared of the incoming ball as also playing without the bounce and without the backswing Kids who are introduced to the net game on mini-court find it easier to come to the net also while playing on bigger court so this transition is smoother if the proper approach is taken with smaller court and softer balls

Player stands in the service box without a racket. Coach feeds the ball to the backhand side. Player tries to catch the ball in front of their body whilst stepping forward with their right leg.

Players stay on the service lines and rally together in a cross-court direction. Players have to hit all the balls in the air.

Place a cone in the middle of the court, half way between the base line and sevice line. Coach rallies with the players through the center of the court. The player should be aiming to volley the ball back so it lands as close to the cone as possible. This is to encourage the deep court volley.

Coach and player rally together. Coach hits different balls (left, right, high, low). Player responds with volleys/overheads to the centre.

Players stands on the service line. Coach feeds balls to the backhand side into the legs of a player. Player executes short backhand half-volley cross-court.

Teacher feeds the ball, however the student must shout out when they are about to split step (which would be just before the teacher feeds the ball). Ball is hit to centre of court and student makes a low forehand volley to the target before returning to the line. Concentrate on stopping for split step and controlling the volley.

The player serves from the deuce side and comes to the net. The coach hits return and both players start to rally together. The coach hits from the baseline while the player has to hit all the balls with forehand volley.
