Football: Volley, Low Dive, Long Shot Combination

DESCRIPTION

Server 1 vollies into hands of the GK.
Then into a low dive save from a central position from Server 2.
Followed up by a final shot from distance at an angle from Server 3.

COACHING POINTS

Correct catching techniquet from Server 1 with 'W' or 'M' grip, depending on the height.
Set position should be in line with ball from Server 2 and if parried, the ball should be pushed out wide into safe zones.
From Server 3 the GK should come out far enough to narrow the angle but not too far for it to shorten the reaction time.

Saving Variations of Shots from Distance

Improve the goalkeeper dealing with shots from distance and at an angle. Using a combination of volleys, low shots and up high strikes replicate the variations of shots keepers might receive.

OFTEN USED WITH...

Volley Into Long Shot Save:

2 serving positions.
Volley into hands from the 1st serving position, followed by a shot from the edge of the area from the 2nd serving position.

Goalkeeping

3 Player Combination with Defender:

Set up as shown.

The player in the middle starts with the ball. They play a diagonal ball into space so that the player to the right can run onto it.

They then play a square ball, once the defender has committed, to the player far left who plays a 1st time ball into the middle player.

Shooting

Wonder Wingers:

Set up 4 meter wide channels along each sideline.

Play 3 vs 3 in the middle area (between the channels) with a goalkeeper at both ends. Station one player in each channel.

The object of the game is to get the ball to your wide player as quickly as possible. As soon as the wide player receives the ball they should sprint to the goal line and cross the ball in towards the goal to their team mates who are attacking the near and far posts.

Crossing and Finishing

Sitting Keeper:

With the goalkeeper sitting on the floor, the ball is thrown to him for him to catch, and then thrown back.
