Football: Top Hand Saves

DESCRIPTION

Cone placed just inside the near post, 2 yards off the line.
GK goes round the cone and recieves a shot high into the far top corner.
GK then repeats with limited recovery time to get them out of position and more likely to have use the hgih save technique to make a save in the top corner.

COACHING POINTS

Step into the dive.
Choose the appropriate technique eg if a high dive save isn't required then make the routine save.
Power across the goal and into position.
Get hands up as soon as possible.
Open the hand and try to make a large surface area by spreading the fingers.

OFTEN USED WITH...

1st touch shooting

Encouraging 1st time shooting by using the correct technique to take the shot early and finish from close range.

Get your knee over the ball and use the pace of the ball to generate the power. By trying to strike the ball too hard, the likelihoood is the accuracy will be poor.

Blue 1 plays ball into area and clue 2 moves in to shoot 1st time. Blue 2 goes to replace blue 1 and blue 1 runs around working area to take blue 2s place.

Shooting

Alien Invasion

Station one player in each grid in the crab postion (belly up, on hands and feet). Six players start on one end line. Station discs at the opposite end line.

The standing players must dribble across the area without being tackled by the crab players who are trying to kick the balls out of the area. If a ball is kicked out, the player stays in the game and tries to help his teammates get the other balls across. The object of the game is to see how many times the players can dribble across the area until no soccer balls are left. Count how many successful trips players make. Repeat and rotate.

Dribbling

1 V 1 - 3 Goal Game

Two players line up on opposite sides of a square.

The attacking player dribbles the ball towards the centre before then attempting to stop the ball between one of the goals.

The goal nearest to the defender's starting point is worth 10 points as it is the hardest goal to stop the ball in. The middle goal is worth 5 and the top goal only 1 point.

Defending

World Cup Control

Group in pairs. One ball between the pair. Repeat in 5 other areas for a total of 12 players.

Player 1 passes the ball across the area to player 2, who must control the ball with the inside of his foot. Player 2 then passes the ball back across the area. Player 1 repeats the practice. The object of the game is to roll the ball over the end line with out the opposing player stopping it. To score a goal, the ball must travel below waist height. Each player should pick his favorite national team and represent that country. The first country to score 5 goals wins the World Cup.

Progression: If you pass the ball back first time and score, you get 2 goals.
