Netball: Shooting underneath the post

Description

The players will set into two lines, whether shooters or none shooters. To speed up the process of the next drill it would be ideal to get into an attacking and defending team. The thrower will stand on top of the circle, throwing the ball into the space under the post. The player from the right hand line will run out first and receive the ball underneath the post then shoot and ensure that they are jumping snatching rebounds. Then they will throw the ball back to the thrower ontop of the circle and run to the other line. Then the left hand line will run out and repeat this process.

Coaching points

The players are being given free reign of running into the space therefore should be running onto the ball and being aware of their footwork. The players are to demonstrate simple core skills when receiving the ball and the two footed shooting stance. Following on from this drill defenders will be bought in therefore the players must demonstrate quick reaction time and more aggression in the game to meet the ball and be direct in where they are going.
