Hi Helen,
for some games to try with your young players have a look in our Conditioned Games section. We particularly recommend Divots and Farmers and Foxes for younger players!
All the best,
The Sportplan Team.
Hello Helen,
what i often do is give them something to do they find really interesting for example farmers and foxes. i also often use lots of coloured bibs cause it keeps there attention. Alsi another good drill to do is the 'traffic lights', it keeps there attention on you but they are also learning awareness of other players around them and dribbling skills.
depending on how may players there is, depends on how big the area is;
give them all a ball and you stand on the outside of the area. before they begin to play, explain to them the meaning of the 'traffic cones' red = stop dribbling the ball, yellow = swap footballs with someone else, green = move quicker for 5 seconds. (this is what i use for the meanings of the cones however you could chose differently depending on the type of session) begin by holding up the cones and shouting either "red, yellow or green" then to progress you can hold the cone up but not shout this gives them the oppurtunity to become aware they have to always pay attention.
i personally find this a good drill to use with the younger players i coach, and they always seem to enjoy themselves.
(I would of drawn a diagram but my chalkboard has decided not to work, sorry)
i hope this helps.

Hi everyone,
They need Fundamental Movement patterns, were they develop the muscle memory patterns of running, jumping, landing, twisting turning, ect ect.
All movement patterns that relate to the game of football; kicking, dribbling, heading ect ect.
Good luck
