Coaching the defences at attack from flanks?

Any suggestions for coaching the defences at attack from flanks?

the above two answers are good. also would focus on overlapping and how to defend against that. a lot of times when you might coach for defense agianst attacking from the flanks you would go over the basics (full backs on the winger, showing them onto their wrong foot, preventing the crossing situation by marking and forcing the ball back inside))

but it is also important to remember the full backs coming forward. if the wingers are not tracking back then the opposition can easily force a 2 v 1 situation. and again if the wide midfielders are not tracking this may force CBs or CMs to get off position to deal with the 2 v 1 problem. and that can completely destroy teams shape.

For me this is about

1. defending in midfield - do not let the flanker get any momentum

2. 1 on 1 defending at full back, holding up and blocking progress or forcing into touch - do not let the flanker get a cross in

3. marshalling resources to deal with speed on the wing and/or cutting his supply

concentrate on training sessions with real match situations of wingers attacking as you highlighted and getting your defenders to contain the moves. This kind of intense training needs to be repeated each week for at least 3-4 weeks for it to sink in to your players.
