young lad aged 8 bowls left arm pace but hops at the crease . bowls of wrong foot
Hi Bobby,
I had this problem too when I was younger. It will take a good couple of weeks practice, but will disappear eventually.
The key to starting the transition is completely slowing down the pace of his run up to a walk. In the nets on his own or in the garden, he needs to walk up to the crease off a short run up and bowl. Do this multiple times.
While still walking to the crease, put him on his full run up. Gradually over time, increase the speed of the run up to a very slow jog, slow jog, jog and eventually a full run. If at any stage he begins hopping, simply slow down the run and start again.
It`s all about changing his muscle memory from the hop to a normal run. Over time, the run should implement itself. He needs to be patient though, and will require encouragement when he inevitably says it won`t work. It works.
Hope this makes sense!
