1 on 1 Continuous

Split into 2 lines and have a line on either side of the court. One player in the middle with a basketball. The player in the middle will pass to the 1st player in one of the lines. After the pass is made that player will go and defender the receiver of the pass. They will play 1v1. Only 1 shot is allowed. Once a shot has been taken the ball will be passed to the opposite line where the offensive player will become the defender.

1 v 1 Advantage

A line of players will start in the corner. There will be a cone in front of the players about 25 ft away. There will also be a cone along the baseline that the defensive player will run around. The player at the front of the line will have a basketball. The coach will nominate 1 person to start on defence. When the coach yells GO both players will take off to get around their cones. Once they are around the cones they are playing 1 v 1.

Stuck in the Mud

All players have a ball each. The catchers have to try and touch one of the players without bibs. If they succeed in doing so then that person has to stand still and put their ball on their head.

Play 2 versus 2 at one basket. No dribbling allowed. Alternate possession. Play to eleven.

2 on 2 Helpside Drill

white1 and white2 will pass ball to each other 3 or 4 times. blue1 and blue2 will adjust accordingly. red1 and red2 are continually getting open. white1 or white2 will pass to either red1 or red2. Now, it becomes a 2 on 2 game. reds vs blues until reds score or blues get the ball. Rotation = Offence to defence, defence to passers.

3 v 3

Split the class into groups of 6. With 3 defenders and 3 attackers. One team starts with the ball and is attacking the basket, with the other team defending. If the defenders get the ball then the roles are reversed.

4 on 2 Grid Passing Drill

Players play a 4 on 2 passing game within the grid area. When defending wins the ball 2 whites move out of the area and another two move into play a 4 v 2 again.

Play 4 versus 4 at one basket with the following rules: No Dribbling Pass and screen or pass and cut Make it - take it First team to 7 wins

Animal - Everyone vs. Everyone

3 players in key, coach bounces ball in. Everyone is competing for the ball.  Player who gets a shot in returns to the line and another player comes in. It is continuous play.

Basketball Bulldog

White Player 1 is 'On' Blue Players 1 to 8 try to dribble their basketballs to the opposite line. Any players that the white player touches are 'caught' and will be 'On' with white player 1. The players that make it to the other side continue until there is one winner.

Select between 2 to 6 people to be in the middle (depending on the size of the group). The rest of the group each have a ball and on the command they have to dribble from one end of the court to the other. They have to make sure that they avoid the catchers in the middle who are trying to knock their ball away. If one of the dribblers is caught they join the other catchers in the middle.

Carolina Shooting Drill

2 players work with 1 basketball. Players must catch and shoot on the move. Once a player has shot they should catch their own rebound and pass to the other players. Once the player has passed the ball, they should make a run/cut and then get ready to shoot the ball.

Cat and Mouse

Set up two wide cones with 2 teams facing each other. Both teams are going in the same direction around the cones. The goal is to catch up with the other team to tag or over take them. The team that does this is the winner. Each player will complete a full circle around both cones before passing to the next player.

Catch the ball passing game

One defending player is trying to catch the player in possession of the ball. Players in possession of the ball can not move. Players without the ball can move though to make themselves available to receive the pass. If a player is caught whilst in possession of the ball they must now become the catcher and the drill starts again.

Grip Game

Each player has a basketball. At the end of each baseline put a football goal. The coach has a volleyball. Each player must hold his or her basketball with both hands (fingertips). The game starts in the central circle. The coach bounces the volleyball and players must hit the volleyball with the basketball and try to score a goal.

Hot Seat- Shooting Game

Set up as shown in diagram. If the player makes the shot, then they will go to the back of the line and the next player will shoot. If a player misses a shot, then they will go stand by the cone (this place is called the "hot seat") If the next player makes the shot, then the player on the "hot seat" is out. If the next player misses then the player on the "hot seat" goes to the back of the line and the player who missed takes their place on the "hot seat". The winner is the last person in the game.

Island Bulldog

Players with a ball try and get to the other side without being caught (must dribble the ball). None of the players are allowed on the islands (Set up area with cones).

Players dribble their ball outside from island to island without being caught by the catcher. The catcher is not allowed on the Islands. Anybody caught goes to a prison island.

2 team of players try to touch a nominated player with the ball. The player that does manage to touch the player with the ball becomes the next player to try and avoid the ball from touching them.
