Penalty Stroke

- Video showing a penalty flick - The player must be within 'playing distance' of the ball (should be able to touch the ball with their stick)

- Playing a 2 on 1 in a narrow area - Looking to post hard towards the player and turn strong - Player making the initial pass should get ahead of play, looking to receive the ball

- Playing a 2 on 1 in a narrow area - Looking to post hard towards the player and turn over the right shoulder - Player making the initial pass should get ahead of play, looking to receive the ball - Utilise a shimmy pass on the reverse

- Making an aggressive lead towards the ball and rolling over the left shoulder - Rolling over the left shoulder is referred to as 'turning strong'

- Posting up is when a player moves from one area of the pitch to another looking to receive the ball - Moves the ball by rolling over the left shoulder

Power Push

Place the stick behind the ball and push. There should be NO NOISE on contact. Start with the ball in line with the right foot as this allows for maximum weight transfer. Endeavour to keep eyes up throughout stroke and stick. In contact, feel the ball. This may be difficult initially but will pay dividends with your potential high achievers as it will let them see a defenders late movement and allow them to make adjustments. Tip: Place the right foot on a line. Start the ball on the same line.

Pull Back and Shoot

Practicing the pull back skill in a controlled situation to perfect the skill. 1 v 1 between attacker and defender. Defender starts just behind and to the right of the attacker Attacker dribbles towards goal and slightly to the left, before completing the pull back skill This should cause the defender to run past the attacker, giving him space to get a shot at goal

Players set them self in the middle of 4 cones (the Clock) in this stage they learn the foot work pattern of the skill. Players have to step with their left foot planting it at 11 oclock pointing at the ball

Learning the initial stick positionAt this stage the players have to step with the foot to 11 and put their recvers stick by the ball (not touching at this stage)

At this stage the players move the ball back towards the 4 oclock as well as stepping with their left foot and turning the stick to the reverse stick side.

At this stage we add the running with the ball element before the skill this will make it more match like. Player still should be stepping wiyth their left foot and turning the stick to the reverse before pulling the ball back.

Technique video to show a player performing the pull back skill The player runs forward, before quickly transferring their weight back, pulling the ball backwards and rolling out to the right This is an effective skill, when there is a defender slightly to the right of you as an attacker.

Set up four cones in a 5 by 5 metre square. You can have 1 to 4 players working in any one square, each player needs a ball.

HITTING TECHNIQUE It is difficult to define the correctÂ’ technique; if a player is quick and highly successful, a teacher should question whether to change a player's style. However, it is recognised that only the flat, German style hit is effective on a water-based pitch, as other techniques tend to make the ball rise. It is highly desirable to teach the following:

- Receiving the aerial pass - The body should be put behind the ball - Ball should be taken on the head of the stick - Once the initial aerial has been cushioned, the ball should be steadied quickly to allow the next pass to be played quickly

In pairs players run down a channel (5m apart ) passing the ball to each others forehand. Check Players keep their feet pointing forward at all time. especially on the left.
