How to improve hip shots?

I'm a center back and one of the shots that I like more to do is the hip shots, how can I improve the power, precision and the speed of my throws? Would like to know how to win vs GK with hip shots from 9m+

Hi Orczeiro,

The best way to improve you shots from the hip is to initially get the technique right. Don`t worry about power first, this will come with the right technique.

Make sure you have your legs spread wide to give you a good base to throw from, a lot of your power will come from your legs once you build up your technique.

Make sure you use your hips to rotate through the throw and look at the target when you`re throwing to improve your accuracy.

Then keep practicing, giving yourself targets in the goal to hit and develop your power over time. Build your core strength and you`ll soon see your power increase.

See the drill below for the perfect technique!

I hope this helps!

Center shot - Hip height

DESCRIPTION
Center shot hip height: A right hander should take one right footed step forward when they are about an arm's length away from their opponent. They should raise their arm to shoulder height, backwards, as if to make a normal center shot. Their right hip should be turning backward with arm and shoulder together. The player should then take a large step with their left foot, almost so that it is between the opponent's legs. The final move - players' arms move from back to front explosively, with their hand behind the ball (hand should be sideways, like you want to sweep the floor with the side of your hand). Finally, let go of the ball and point in the direction you want to throw it.
