DESCRIPTION

Blue players stand behind cones placed in a square, with two defenders stood inside a smaller square contained within the larger one.

The blue player who starts with the ball must dribble forwards and contest the area with the defender. The defending player can only use their torso to prevent the attacker from dribbling any further forwards.

After tussling with the defender the attacker must pass the ball in a clockwise direction to the next player and then run straight across the grid to the back of the opposite line.

COACHING POINTS

Look for solid contests inside the smaller square, with defenders being quick to react and meet the ball carrier.

The defenders are sharing the responsibility so when one goes, the other should be preparing to go to the next player.

Breaking through to shoot

Blue players line up behind three cones outside the 9 meter line.

The defender stands between the 7 and the 9 meter line, ready to block the attacker's run.

Attacking players take it in turns to dribble forwards and try and shuffle, feint and force their way past the defender.

After they have completed their run players then move in a clockwise direction to the next group.

Out of the circle

Blue players must work together to try and prevent white players from breaking out of the circle.

To do so they must move quickly to pair up and form a human barrier in front of the white players as they try and burst out.

Take on your man

The player in possession dribbles towards their defender until they are face to face with them.

Once facing the defender they must try and shuffle, run and push past their maker.

Tag - Protect the player

The tagger tries to tag a specific player and must make it clear which player it is they are trying to catch.

The players on the other team must try to prevent the tagger from catching the player they are trying to catch.

Shut Down - No Escape

Players stand with one player in the middle and five around the outside. It's the aim of the outside players to pair up and shut down the middle player's escape route - using shoulder strength to box out the middle player.

Players stand in a circle, with two player in the middle and the remainder forming the ring. It's the aim of the outside players to pair up and shut down the middle players' escape routes - using shoulder strength to box out the middle players.

Through the gate!

Blue players take it in turns to run forward and take on the defender in a 1v1. The aim for the defender is to protect their gate and prevent the attacker from getting through.

triple defending action

A passes to B who tries to get past C. After this action C sprints to the cones and makes an 8 shape course around the cones and blocks the shot by A, then defends the action of D. After this action D sprints around the cone and sprints to the throw off line and receives the pass of the goalkeeper.

Wing Defence

Player / coach stands in line with the substitution line and feeds the ball to the attacking players (white 3 and white 1). On receiving the pass players must try to wrong foot the wing defender as they engage in a defensive duel.
