The first player rolls the ball out to player 2 (in the opposite line) who runs to meet the ball and performs an under arm flick back to player 1. Player 1 runs with the ball into the middle and puts it down before joining the back of the other queue. As soon as this player has run to the back of this line the next player goes.

BAT 1) calls YES. BAT 2) runs towards stumps. BAT 1) runs towards other batter On the call of YES F 1) Rolls ball out. F 2) runs in and under arm flicks at stumps. F 2) is trying to run out BAT 2). Each team has 3 wickets, when an individual is out he stays in. When 3 lives are used up the team is out, then batsmen change with fielders.

Under arm flick vs batters

5-6 fielders and batsmen will be needed for this circuit. When the batting side is ready they must try and run to the other end before the fielding side have caught the ball behind the wickets. When the batting player (1) shouts YES the fielder (1) rolls the ball out to the next fielder (2) and then runs behind the stumps to back up. If the ball reaches the wickets before the batting players then those players have been run out. Fielder (2) then throws ball to the fielder behind the stumps and Fielder (2) goes to Fielder (1)'s old position on the cone. Fielder (1) throws the ball to fielder (2) before joining the back of the fielding queue and the drill starts again.

Ground fielding and throwing

Underarm cross-over - continuous

Set up two cones, 10m apart and 10m from the target stump. (This drill is best performed in front of a net as shown). Coach rolls the balls out one after another down the middle of the two cones. As the balls come out players must attack them one at a time, running diagonally from alternate cones, to pick up the ball and throw them back looking to hit the stump. Players then join the back of opposite queue.

Variations

1) Right hand only 2) Left hand only 3) If ball is fumbled, then it goes to the opposition. 4) You pass the ball by underarm catches (if catch is dropped ball goes to opposition). 5) You can only one bounce the ball to team mate (if ball is dropped ball goes to opposition). 6) Coach keeps changing the game from catching, to rolling, to one bounce, if fielders get it wrong ball goes to opposition.

Warm up drills

Roll the ball along the ground to a team mate. You can run with the ball, but the ball must be rolled along the ground. Aim to hit the stumps (approach from any side of the square)in the opposition square, using an underarm flick. The square is made up of cones, distance 5-8 metres from the stumps. No fielders at any time are allowed inside the square. The ball is never out of bounds, as there are no boundaries.

Ground fielding and throwing

Weak and Strong Run Out Station
