What is the rule for the last ball in a rounders game?

I'm a backstop and I am not really sure what to do as I just started playing backstop.

the last ball has to be hit and once hit rather than stump a post you must get the ball to the backstop in order to put it in the batters box before the batter makes it the whole way round the pitch
