Is there a limit on the over-run rule?

Is there a limit on the overrun rule? Obviously it is a 2m line. I tell my pupils they can continue in the same direction of the line until they manage to slow down. They then have to walk back and remain in contact with the post before stepping over the 2m line. Is there a limit on their over run?

The line is only 2 metres long to save paint! Imagine the line goes on forever, if that were possible! They need to have touched the post, and can then use the line, and it's imaginary extension, to slow down, and return to the base.

I agree with mike!  the line was put there to help the umpires to make the correct decision. However to further help and to ensure your player is not out, always coach the player to touch the post and turn RIGHT. This way they will never step over the line.
