Give each pupil a floating toy/small ball. They are to walk to the other side of the pool, at the same time pushing the toy/ball with their nose. No hands allowed!
Tell the children to pretend they are dolphins (or other animals that can push a ball in water with their nose!) - this helps distract nervous ones from the fact their faces will be close to the water.
