DESCRIPTION

  • Place an obect 8 yards in front of the GK. In this case we use an upturned piece of drainpipe weighted down. Planks of wood such as scaffolding board works well.
  • Server strikes the ball at the object looking for a deflection.
  • GK must watch the ball all the way and react to make the save if it deflects off the object.

COACHING POINTS

  • GK to focus on the ball and try not to go low too early.
  • Get the hands to the height of the ball and watch the ball all the way into the hands.
  • GK still needs to have good positioning in line with the ball and with the centre of the goal behind them.
  • Try and get a second barrier behind the ball, hands first and then the body or head behind the ball in case the ball slips past the hands.

Reactions Test | Goalkeeping

Reactions Test:

Can be used with one or more keepers simultaneously. Place a ball on either side of your keepers, within diving reach.

Your keepers should be stood in the middle of these two balls on their cones.

When the coach / player gives the signal (stretching a hand out to the left or the right) your keepers should react as quickly as possible and dive to catch the ball on that side.

Catching Slalom:

Working in twos, with one ball, the keeper must catch the feed into their stomach, throw it back and then backtrack around each pole.

After they've run around the pole, taking small and speedy steps they move out ready to take the next feed.

Defensive Pressure | Defending

Defensive Pressure:

Play 3 v 3 in the middle area with goalkeepers stationed in each of the goals. Balls are placed around the field so that as soon as a ball goes out, the closest ball is played in.

As soon as a player receives the ball from the goalkeeper or an outfield teammate, he should attempt a shot on goal. The defending team must attempt to pressure the ball carrier and closely mark all other attacking players.

Calling Turns:

Players carry out the commands from the coach. The commands are as follows:

  • Turn
  • Dive left
  • Dive right

They must react as quickly as possible.
