DESCRIPTION

After the first player has thrown the ball to the player next to them, they have to run all the way around to try and get back to their starting position before the ball does.

COACHING POINTS

The key to success for the fielding team here will be consistency. Can they catch and throw under pressure to beat the runner?

With less experienced players you can move the fielding team inside the bases or have more players so that they're throwing over a shorter distance.

Improving Throwing - Speed Fielding

Help your players throw over distance, work on their underarm bowling technique and consistently and confidently catch with both hands!

OFTEN USED WITH...

All the Way Across the field:

Teams of 4 try and throw the ball across a pitch as quickly as possible, not missing any players out.

The first team to throw the ball 10 times across the pitch is the winner.

3 ball round the clock:

Setup: 4 players stand in a diamond with 3 balls. A 5th player stands in the middle.

To start the drill 1 of the outside players throw their ball to the player in the middle who has to return the ball the player who did not have a ball before the ball was thrown.

The middle player then rotates to receive the next ball and the drill continues in this way.

Catching drill:

Partners stand opposite each other and throw a ball back and forth, trying to see how many catches they can make in a given time (e.g. 1 minute).

Round the clock:

5 players 4 balls. Player in the middle receives the ball from one of the players and returns it then turns to the next player and repeats this 3 times round all 4 players.
