Divots!

Scatter some cones (divots) across the area, some the right way up, and some upside down. Split the group into two teams - 'Hackers and Greenkeepers' - and spread them out across the area. On the word 'Go' the Hackers run round turning the divots upside down and the Greenkeepers must turn them the right way up.

To encourage the pupil to develop a feel for basic control when putting. Pupils practice rolling the ball towards a target as if playing bowls to develop a feel for the length of swing to achieve the distancfe required.

Simon Says

SET-UP: Identify areas as part of a golf course (tee, fairway, green, bunker, etc). Spread the group out across the area. ACTIVITY: Instruct the group to follow the commands but only if they are preceeded by the words 'Simon Says...' Some of the suggested commands direct the players to the marked areas Simon Says: ... Go to the tee ... Go to the green ... Go to the fairway ...Go to the bunker Other commands require the players to perform certain acts. Simon Says: ...Fore! (players crouch and cover their head) ...It's in the hole (players jump and cheer) ...Birdie! (players flap their arms) ...It's in the rough (players bend over as if searching for the ball)

Set out the following areas with coloured cones the Tee (White cones) The Green (10 metres away from the Tee 9Green cones) A water hazard (Blue cones) A Bunker (Yellow cones) the area between the green and the T is the fairway Spread all the areas out. Then tell the children, Simon Says go to the Green or Simon says go to the Water hazard etc. ask the children some questions about where they are standing, or make them make a big splash noise when jumping into the water hazard.

Treasure Island

SET-UP: Mark out one or more courses of 'Islands' using chalk, string, mats, hoops or other suitable markers. Split the group into several teams and send each team to an 'Island'. Give one ball to each member of the group. ACTIVITY: Players in each team take it in turn to try and toss the ball so that it lands on, or finishes on an 'Island'. When successful, the team moves to that Island. The first team to get to the end wins.
