Have an equal number of bib and non bib players on each side. Get each person to pick a partner. They practice for a minute or two striking the ball to their partner and then we turn it into a game. The winners are the team (group of 2) to 10 points first. A point is a completed pass to a team mate. Give 5 points to a group if the receiver catches the ball without bouncing. If this is going well get them to do it also off their left. If the gap between the groups is too far or too close adjust accordingly. If the group are struggling with the short striking just turn it into a game of accross the river where you keep them hitting the ball accross to each other and see how many balls are left on each side at the end of a minute
Ensure kids have correct hand on top. Encourage the kids to rise the ball through both jab lift and roll lifts (ensure the hurley is pointing away from the boby) Remind the kids if they are struggling hitting from their hand to:- throw it away from them so they are following the ball- not swinging too fast important especially for the short striking that they shorten the hurley and strike through their wrists
