Ultimate: Volley Disc

DESCRIPTION

Create a playing area which has two large areas for each team and a central out-of-bounds area; each team stays in their side.
Teams are allowed up to 3 passes between themselves, then must throw the disc into the other area.
If the disc is not caught and lands inside the receiving team’s area, award 1pt to the throwing team.

COACHING POINTS

Offensive team should attempt to move the disc quickly to move the defense around and make extra space

OFTEN USED WITH...

Triangular Passing:

Split into groups of 3
One disc per group
Form a triangle, 5 metres from each athlete
Players must fake the pass anticlockwise to one partner, and then use the forehand throw to the other partner

Throwing Skills

Throw & Go:

Split the group into teams of 8 or more (i.e. 4 players on each side)
When a player has run to the back of the queue, get them to sit down.
Once everyone has been through once as a warm up, repeat again as a race. The first team all sat down is the winner!
Award points for the fastest team (1pt for the slowest team, 2pts for the next slowest, etc). Repeat the race until one team scores

Throwing Skills

Zig Zag Shuttle:

Players stand in two lines facing each other, slightly off-set to form a zig zag line.
The disc starts at one end of one line.
Players throw the disc to the person next along the chain, so that the disc zigzags all the way along.
Incomplete passes should be repeated.
Try to get the disc all the way along the line and back again without a turnover; if this is done, all players take 2 steps back and try again.
See who can get the furthest apart / complete the most passes.

Throwing Skills

Give & Go Forehand:

Player 1 and Player 2 start facing the same direction, into the space where the disc will be thrown
Player 2 has the disc
Player 2 turns and throws to Player 1.
Player 2 then runs across in front of Player 1, who throws into space for Player 2 to catch
Aim to throw into the space in front of Player 2
Donât throw too hard; this is easier to execute if thrown softly
