DESCRIPTION

Setup:

Full half field, central channel which the first attacking team starts in. Waves of attack vs defence.

Explanation:

The ball starts with the coach who plays to the greens and are trying to score. If they score in the direction they are attacking, they turn and return to the middle and attack the other team
If they miss the target or the attack breaks down they must swap with the defending team and that defending team now becomes the attacking team
Counting scores i.e goals scored. Working with 4 players being desperate to disrupt the attack and get the chance to be the attackers. If defending team win the ball they must find the middle area with a player in there to get the chance to attack

Can you help the 10s with instructions on when to press and who should press the ball?

10 (ACM)

Same coaching points above + the following;
Can you manipulate where the ball carrier plays the ball if you can press but not win the ball directly?
Can you work together with the 9,7,11 to hunt down the ball without exposing our defence and pushing too many players forward

9 (FW)

Same coaching points above + the following;
Can you work with the 8,10,7,11 to hunt down the ball together?

2/3s (WBKs)

Can you force the ball carrier inside to our numbers if you can not directly win the ball back ?
Can you be in a position to provide a pressing overload on the ball carrier?

OFTEN USED WITH...

3 vs 1 Keep ball:

Straight forward passing and moving drill with only two touches on the ball.

The blue players off the ball can only receive the ball at one of the four cones in each corner of the area and the red player is trying to intercept the ball.

Possession

Barcelona Small Sided Game:

The aim of the drill is to work on helping your team keep possession all over the field. The game starts with normal rules, no limitations on touches, with both teams simply trying to score. The game changes when the coach shouts the following:

1. Possession - Players must keep possession in their own half, which of course means they are not allowed to score. If a team wins the ball, they must take the ball to their own half and try and keep it.

2. Normal - Teams return to a normal game and are allowed to score.

3. Barca - Similar to possession, but this time players must attempt to keep the ball in the other teams half, but they are not allowed to score. If the other team wins the ball they must get the ball into their opponent's half and keep it there.

Possession

1, 2, 3 Pass and Move:

There are two triangles in this drill, both using the same top point player (player 5).

Players in the top triangle pass in an anti-clockwise direction and players in the lower triangle pass in a clock-wise direction.

Both pairs of players must use the middle player as their third passing option.

Passing and Receiving

Use the width to get up the pitch:

Red 1 passes the ball to one of the teams to start the game.

There should be 3 players in both wings and 8 players in the centre of the pitch. The wing players cannot be tackled and the central players are not allowed into the wing areas.

In order to score a goal the team in possession must make 5 consecutive passes before passing out to their wide man. The wide players must both touch the ball before it is crossed in for the team in possession to attack it, with the other team defending the cross.

After an attack on goal has been made the ball returns to red 1 who feeds the ball out to the other team.
