Rounders: Taking a high ball (skill)

The position of the back stop can be close or far behind the batter. The positioning helps the batter decide where to bowl.

Receiving a ball from the bowler and sending to 1st Post  

Approach the ball at speed and as you get into line with the ball, twist your upper body, leading with the shoulder furthest from the ball. Bend both knees, so that the knee of the leg nearest to the ball touches the ground, but it is also next to the back of the heel of the other leg. With fingers down and head forward, pick up the ball and then stand back up ready to deliver an overarm throw.

In pairs

in pairs lob throwing the ball at each other for the other player to practice catch the high ball.

in Pairs players throwing the ball to the outside of each other. Making the player catch the ball to the side of the body.

Players take it in turns to run out to the rolling ball, bend down, pick it up and then turn and throw it back to their partner. When picking up the ball players should aim to put their non-throwing side foot on the outside of the ball. A right-hander would place their left foot to the outside of the ball. They would then bend down, twist as they stand up and then throw back.

Both fielders run behind the post player to stop the ball if the post player is not able to catch or stop the ball.

Players set them selves to catch the ball. When the ball is thrown wide above the mat the player turn dive and catch the ball.

Feeder roles the ball at pace to the fielder. Feilder Walks in – attack the ball and send back to feeder. ( gets better when they get the hang of it!)

In pairs rolling the ball across the ground to each other. Players should use the barrier to gather the ball.
