Panther will be our zone defense that will focus on pressuring the ball up top and at x while only giving up outside shots Our 2 designated d poles will play the two middle spots in the zone. they will share responsibility for the crease and will move in unison when the ball moves When the ball moves to x, the bottom middle pole will leave the crease and play the x player with the ball (we can use this to lock off their X guy as well) when the ball moves to x, the top middle pole will leave top center and take the crease over from the center middle pole the 2 SSDM will play in the top corners of the zone forcing only down the ally and collapsing on attackers who get inside the zone the two bottom poles will lock down the bottom corners of the zone, constantly helping crease and knocking down skip passes the slides will run adjacently within the zones
Communication is key! Communication is key! Communication is key! Keep your sticks up in the passing lanes at all times off ball. Allowing skip passes is how you beat a zone defense the two middle d poles must move quickly to cover space in the zone, they are the playmakers in the zone top middle pole can play at the top of the box heavy as they wish looking for takeaways. SSDM must pinch to the middle for support Zone defense allows for easy fast break opportunities after forcing outside shots. Make sure to break up field to start a fast break if you're at the top of the zone feel free to pressure the ball at X as the SSDM can collapse the crease and wings as the corner D poles can stop the ball carrier
