It's not a goal, unless it touch the net or board
Just as if a ball crosses the sideline while in the air it is called out, a ball that is saved behind the goal line is also out and so a goal.
Directly from the rule book.......
"8 Method of scoring
8.1 A goal is scored when the ball is played within the circle by an attacker and does not travel outside the circle before passing completely over the goal-line and under the crossbar.

Mick is correct. The ball has to cross the line only.
If the ball was placed over the line (but stopped before it hit the backboard) it would be a goal. This is true regardless of height (the image below should show what I mean - the ball has stopped moving, and would still be a goal.

A goal is scored when it crosses the Goal line regardless of whether it is in the air or on the ground. Just remember the whole ball has to cross the whole line or above that line
