Simple game for teaching tackling when on your knees.
Starting with initially two tacklers and the rest as attackers, players must try to go from one side to the other with a ball in their hands without being tackled.
If a player is tackled they must throw their ball out of the area and become a tackler in the next round of the game.
With more confident players you can get your players to repeat this game standing up at walking pace.
Pass gets given to the attacker who has to run down the grid. When the tackle comes in the player with the ball has to present the ball.
Tackler has to get to feet quickly to get the ball and pass it back the the initial passer of the practice . Next two player go.
After each go the players swap sides.
two lines of players opposite each other in 2 lines.
one of the teams has the ball and has to pass the ball along each player in the line.
The player in possession of the ball when the coach calls out go has to run around the cone at the end of the grid to try and run the full length of the grid to score a try. The player from the opposition in line with the player that is running can try to stop the player scoring by running around the cone and tagging the runner before they reach the line.
The first player moves forwards, makes contact with the tackle bag and retreats diagonally to the line of cones.
The next player joins the line and both the players move forward and hit the tackle bag or shield before retreating back to the line again.
The third player then joins the line and all three players go out to meet the tackle bag, shield or fall on the ball.
Drill continues with all players involved.
The group is split in half.
The coach is positioned behind the defenders and instructs the movement of the attackers, who are holding tackle shields.
Defenders must mirror the movement of the attackers.
If the coach indicates right, the attackers move right.
If the coach raises his hands in the air, the attackers move forwards and the defenders move up in a line to meet the tackle shields.
The two lines then retreat and the drill continues.
