Handball: defensive movements

Two red defenders defend 3 attackers who are allowed to use half of the court.

The attacking player on the 7 meter line stands between the cones. When the diagonal pass is made by one of the feeders on the baseline the attacker runs around the opposite cone, catches the ball and shoots at the goal. Repeat this 4 times and then rotate your players clockwise.

Pass from A to B and back to A again who shoots at the goal. Pass from D to E and back to D again who shoots at the goal. Pass from B to C and back to B again who shoots at the goal. Pass from E to C and back to E again who shoots at the goal. Defenders 1 and 2 try to prevent goalshots.

Pass from A to B and back to A again who shoots at the goal. Pass from D to E and back to D again who shoots at the goal. Pass from B to C and back to B again who shoots at the goal. Pass from E to C and back to E again who shoots at the goal. Pivot F and G help everywhere by blocking running ways for defenders 1 and 2. and may score goals as well. Defenders 1 and 2 try to prevent goalshots.

Blue pass around - 3 red defenders come forward and touch the backcourt players once the are in possession and step backward after done so. Change after 10 times rounds.

Pass B1-R2 who comes around W2, after that W1 comes around R2 receives ball from B1 and throws at the goal. After that W2 comes around W1 etc. Series of 6 throws each.

Pass diagonally B3-B3 or B2-B1. Passes : - normal - hard - bounce pass - high

Passes B1 - B2 who throws at the goal 8 times in succession.

Pass B3-B1 throws at the goal after coming around the cone. Pass B3-B2 throws at the goal after coming around the cone. Then : B3 runs in between the cones, pass B5-B3 who throws at the goal. B4 runs in between the cones and receives pass from B6.

Make a movement forward with your trunk bent forward. 1. Take off with one or two feet. Bend forward with ankle, knee and hip, trunk bent forward, eyes to the goal. 2. After the shot both arms touch the floor because directly after the shot the landing takes place. 3. There must be a fast bending of the arm to cushion the fall, the trunk is brought forward and the head is in the neck. 4. Both legs are bent almost 90 degrees, feet upward. Slide forward on the floor when the chest touches the floor. Head in the neck. 5. Chest, belly and upper leg slide on the floor, while the arms push the body along the floor. 6. The body slides forward, while elbows and wrists are completely bent.

Out of the turning movement you make a movement forward with your trunk bent forward. Diving/ rolling: 1. Take off with one or two feet. The two wide players start with one ball in hand and a second by their feet. Blue 1 passes their first ball to red 1 who catches, spins and throws at the goal. After that blue two passes to red 2 who also throws at the goal. Red 1 and Red 2 then change sides and shoot again from the other side. Series of six throws.

Blue 2 start this practice with a pass out wide to the player on the wing (blue 1). Player 2 then runs forward, looking for the return pass. At this time blue 3 (your pivot player) should prepare to make their move away from the defender. Player 2 receives the ball and then then passes to player 3 who then makes space and shoots on goal.

The blue players stand on the edge of the 9 meter line and take it in turns to pass at Red 1 who is in the pivot position. Upon receiving the pass red 1 turns and throws at the goal. Players have 4 shots each and then rotate.

You cannot be hit when you are lying on the floor on your back. Tag men may not wait more than 3 seconds, other players may not stay on the floor for more than 2 seconds.

1    Team 1: A passes to B, A starts for the fast break and receives the pass from B, dribbles towards the goal and makes a goalshot. 2    Team 2: C passes to D, C starts for the fast break and receives the pass from D, dribbles towards the goal and makes a goalshot. The team that scores 10-15-20-15 goals wins the match

This drill practises the pivot rolling off the defender for a quick shot on goal. The coach/feeder (blue 2) passes to blue 1 who runs to meet the pass and then pushes/rolls off the defender (white 1) to find space for the shot on goal. Repeat for a series of 6 shots.
