Assessment of typical field kick with the goal to hit a static target at 20m. Set drill up by placing static object 20m from two cones. Player starts with ball behind the cones and advances kicking the ball at the target.
Primary areas of assessment: Kicking mechanics accuracy distance Teaching points: Object should be sufficient size that simulates a kick to a target. For example: a bucket sitting on a stool. Player should be encouraged to kick straight and not around the body for this drill. Common faults to look for: poor ball drop. Kicking motion not in line with target. A corrective action which may help is place a line of cones in a straight line from the kicking point to the target. The player will be able to track the correct line as they look at the ball when kicking.
