DESCRIPTION

One player always passes the ball straight and the other always passes the ball diagonally.

Both players are catching and throwing the ball with one hand and at shoulder height.

COACHING POINTS

Ensure your players spread their fingers behind the ball for control.

Players must be showing their hands to indicate they're ready to receive the ball.

PROGRESSION

With larger groups your can progress this practice by having players working in triangles - on the coach's call of 'change' players must change the direction of the pass.

OFTEN USED WITH...

Drive and Turn:

Players work in pairs with 1 ball, standing 2 metres apart.

The worker drives forward and touches the ball in feeder's hand.
They then angle their body to the right and move back 3-4 steps.
The feeder places the ball on the worker's right hand side.
The worker retrieves the ball and is then passed back to feeder.

Ball skills

Passing in Pairs:

Player work in pairs and stand 1m apart.

Players pass back and forth while facing one another as they move along the length of the court and back.

Carrying Cone Warm Up:

Split your players into two equal teams and put down an equal number of cones in each final third.
The two teams compete against one another, trying to take cones/bibs from their opponents area and place them behind their line.

Warm ups

Criss-Cross Pass - Land on outside foot:

Split your players into 4s or more with 2 balls. Both blue players start with a ball.

The blue players both throw the ball to the Red players who in turn return the ball.
After returning the ball the red players swap places.
Repeat once more.

Time the cross-over moves so that players receive on the move.
