Purpose:
To practice a breakout that has little to no forechecking from the opposing team.
Movements:
C skates to the back of the net and takes a quick look to see which forward is th ebest option for the breakout pass. C will make the pass to the LW and head up ice on the attack.
LW skates across the ice to support the C going behind the net and opens up for a breakout pass. Once the LW receives the pass the curl up ice in the middle right lane. As the LW passes the blue line they make a cross ice pass to the RW who crossed over. Once the pass is made to the RW the LW stays on their side and moves up ice to support the attack.
RW starts skating across the ice and looks to see if they will be the option for the breakout pass, once the C makes it known that the pass is going to the LW, the RW continues across the ice and curls up the left land and heads up ice. Once they cross the blue line they look for a pass from the LW. Once they receive the pass from the LW they stay in the left lane and move up ice on the attack with the C and LW supporting.
LD and RD move up ice to provide minimal pressure and as soon as the initial break out pass is made they being to skate backwards maintaining gap control on the wings and defend the 3 on 2 rush.
The designed breakout routes the puck carrier goes behind the net and can determine which crossing forward to pass to based on pressure.
