August '02: Press Release

Sports coaching in the UK to be transformed by new internet technology application.

A new on-line application, Sportplan®, will revolutionise sports coaching for coaches and teachers alike by removing the time consuming hassle of developing, maintaining and recording their coaching sessions. Successful sports coaching requires the coach or teacher to put considerable effort into keeping their coaching sessions, fresh, interesting and up to date with the latest developments in the sports concerned - now all this can be done with the click of a mouse.

Sportplan has been developed over the last two years by one of Europe's leading sports coaches, Bram van Asselt. Totally internet based, subscribers to Sportplan can view and select from thousands of practice drills - all graphically illustrated using flash animation and with accompanying guidance notes. Users can create and store their own tailored sessions using Sportplan's unique search engine and clipboard - enabling them to dispense with the traditional approach of wading through books, manuals and paper based session notes.

The practice drills and coaching notes for the nine sports featured have all been developed in conjunction with the leading coaching specialists for the sports concerned. Coaches can select practice drills for all ages and abilities; for varying degrees of difficulty and for individual, group or team practices. Sportplan is working with many of the featured sports' governing bodies.

All subscribers’ need is a computer, internet access and a browser. A free Flash plug in is supplied. A variety of subscription packages are available - from £50 to £250 depending on the number of sports taken - and the subscription features regular updates and additions for minimal additional charges to help coaches stay at the leading edge of their selected sports.
Commenting on Sportplan, Bram van Asselt said: "I have worked with some of the leading names in sport to develop this service. I've also been coaching sport for over 20 years in schools and clubs from beginners up to full international level so I understand exactly what coaches, teachers and pupils have to deal with. Sportplan takes the hassle out of coaching and allows the coaches to concentrate on developing players to the best of their ability, confident that they are using the best available practices."

He concluded: "The software behind this service also enables coaches to set up user groups and cascade set programmes throughout the group. For example a club coach or senior teacher can set up a programme for a season and run it across the relevant coaching staff or teams - getting input from other coaches along the way. Having done it for sports coaching it is easy to see how this technology could also be applied to developing lesson planning and helping to manage set curricula in schools and other teaching environments."
