I have a beginners group of children around the age of 5-9. I need to try and improve there balance on all strokes but I only have three 30 min sessions with them. My boss is looking for something new but that works. please help rapidly running out of ideas. Thanks
Hi Georgia,
To improve their balance you need to focus on improving their core stability. I have found some drills that may be appropriate for younger swimmers, this is on breastroke but can be adapted for any stroke:
Another good swimming drill that can be for any age swimmer for front crawl is the catch up drill:
This will encourage them to slow their stroke down and focus on balancing.
Other tips I would advise would be to watch their head positioning, if they are moving their head in the direction of their arm pull, it will cause their body to sway, making them more unbalanced.
Hope this helps.
