Back stop

The position of the back stop can be close or far behind the batter. The positioning helps the batter decide where to bowl.

Back Stop Reaction Drill

Set Up: 4 players - bowler, batter, back stop, and 1st post. Rounders balls, post, cones. The Drill: Bowler bowls the ball to the batter (batting with a cone). They attemt to tip it through to the back stop to take. The backstop reacting to the tip off the cone sends the ball to 1st post. Bowler bowls 6 good balls then the players rotate.

Catch the mis-hit

Ball machine or bowler injects ball to batter who stands in batting box with a cone. The cone is used to deflect the ball backwards or the ball is missed and goes directly backwards. The backstop throws the ball directly to first base. First base stumps post and throws ball to bowler.

Reaction Take (Backstop or Fielders)

Set Up: 1 feeder, 1 catcher, 2 tennis balls (different colours), cones. The feeder and the worker stand opposite each other 3 metres apart. The Drill: Feeder holds 2 different colour balls at arms length, and calls out the colour of the ball they want the the worker to catch. The worker reacts and moves forward to catch the ball after just one bounce. The worker retreats to the starting position and the drill is repeated. The feeder can aslo call for both balls to be caught.
