Gymnastics: Big and Small

DESCRIPTION

Ask children to go for a walk or run. Ask them to stop and make themselves as small as possible--no touching. Repeat.
Next, as children are running, ask them to make themselves as big and wide as possible. Repeat these activities several times at varied speeds.

COACHING POINTS

  • Encourage children to hold their shapes for a count of 5 seconds.
  • Children who find this hard to do practice stepping on command several times before attempting this task.
  • Encourage children to describe the shape that they have made. Emphasize langauge.
