Golf: Cliffhanger

SET-UP: Mark out one or more 'clockfaces' using suitable markers. Place a marker at the centre of each 'clockface'. Split the group into teams and send each team to a 'clockface'. Teams line up at 1 o'clock. Give each team one club and give each player one ball. ACTIVITY: The first player putts the ball towards the target. If they hit the target the team moves onto 2 o'clock but if they miss they stay at 1 o'clock. The second player putts, then the second, then the third and so on. Teams cannot move round until they hit the target. The first team that makes it round to 12 o'clock wins.

SET-UP: Mark out one or more Bullseyes using chalk, string, hoops or other suitable markers. Mark out hitting areas and safe areas for non-hitters. Split the group into teams and spread them around the bullseyes. Place one club and some balls in each hitting area. ACTIVITY: Players try to get the ball close to the centre of the target. Points are scored depending on where the ball finishes.

SET-UP: Place a line of string/chalk line/line of tees etc or use the edge of the putting Green as a target line. ACTIVITY: Players putt to get the ball as near to the target line as possible without 'going over the cliff'. Teams can have a set number of balls; the winner could be the team with the greater number of balls within a set area close to the target.

ACTIVITY: The first player in each team attempts to chip the ball from the tee closest to the hoop (landing) into the hoop. If successful the next team player attempts to chip the ball into the hoop from the next tee continuing until the team has done so from all tees. If any attempts are unsuccessful the next player has to go back to the start.

SET-UP: Divide the group into teams, each player is given a ball. Each team starts from a set position marked out by the leader. ACTIVITY: Players putt their first ball 2/3 meters away then attempts to putt each subsequent ball so that it travels past the next until all are in a row. Ideally each ball should be equally spaced from the previous. This can be done as a team game, using more balls.

To encourage the pupil to develop consistent rhythm to the stroke and control the distance. Pupils attempt to hole 4 consecutive putts from varying distances.The balls should be a regular distance apart to encourage the pupil to make adjustments for the distance of each putt.

ACTIVITY: Each player attempts to hole/hit the target with each ball in turn until all are holed. When all 4 are holed, place balls a putters length and a grip length from the hole and so on. Team players can start at each point and move round clockwise.

Pupils begin by attempting to hit a 5-6 pace putt, away from a hole, paying attention to the length and pace of the stroke. (1) Pupils then attempt to hit 4 additional putts past the previous by keeping the pace of the stroke similar but extending the length of the stroke. (2) A successful effort will see the balls equally spaced. When this is roughly achieved, putt back to the hole. (3)

SET-UP: Set up first player 1 putter length from the hole/target. ACTIVITY: Players play in 'sudden death' format starting 1 putter length from the hole/target and drop out when they miss. When all have played from 1 putter length move players back to 2 putters lengths etc until 1 player remains. The set-up can be duplicated on more holes if required.

SET-UP: Place two tees or markers 6to10cm apart on a putting green or other putting surface. For team activity place several sets of tees around the putting green / surface ACTIVITY: Players attempt to score a goal by rolling the ball through the gates made by the tees or markers 'scoring a goal'. Players can play in teams of up to four and take puts alternately, working their way round the green.

SET-UP: An extension of Sharp Shooter using a course of goals. Place tees / markers 6 - 10 cm apart around the putting green / surface. Tees / markers can be different colours for each gate. ACTIVITY: Players negotiate the course in the least number of strokes. Teams can take alternate shots, the team with the least number of strokes is the winner.

EQUIPMENT: Tees or cones, putters, balls ACTIVITY: In teams, players take turns to try and putt the ball along the course trying not to touch either side of the ?snake? until they have reached the end of the course. If a player?s ball goes outside of the ?snake? they must return to the start.The winning team is the first to reach the end of their ?snake?. CHANGES Easier: ? Wider ?snake?. Harder: ? Narrower ?snake?.
