The coaches will place a puck below the goal line. On the first whistle the D will begin skating backwards to the middle of the ice, The Center and winger will skate to the center zone. On the Second whistle all players will transition to forwards and begin the drill. The d will grab the puck and "wheel" around the net and make a breakout pass to the forward on the wall. The forwards will skate down for the center circle and through the danger zone and then skate to the boards and open up for a breakout pass. . The forward will retrieve the pass and then skate up ice passing back and forth with speed. Once at the far blue line both forwards will regroup and come back to play a 2 v 1 with the orginal Defenceman. The defense will make the breakout pass (with the emphasis on a good first pass)and than follow up ice to transition backwards and, close the gap, while taking on the forwards on a 2 on 1. The drill will operate on both sides at the same time.
Hard passes, defence will wheel the puck and make a solid pass. The wingers and Centerman need to find their timing to ensure that they are not to far up ice for the first pass. Hash marks are ideal. When breaking up ice the forwards need to head man the puck and not pass behind. During the regroup the D needs to keep an active stick and hold position between the 2 forwards while finding the right gap. Forwards need to focus on driving the net and only passing when they are open and in a better position for the puck.
