Marc Coach, United States of America

DESCRIPTION

Defensive skater (red) starts backward skating. Coach fires puck into corner to bury it (no ring around, make it hit square and stop). When puck is fired, defense pivots to skate forward, both forwards also take off full speed and crash the defense (red) to gain the puck. Defense (red) clears the puck at all costs. Attacking forwards try to work puck back to defense (blue). Play becomes 3 on 1 if attacking players gain control. Blue team does 5 pushups if defender (red) clears the puck easily.

COACHING POINTS

This drill can be switched to either side, and the blue defense has to read and react and skate to the correct side. Do not let the red defense get too skating backwards or the forwards will have no chance to crach and compete. Key points: Defense: Transition in motion from backward to forward (this is a weakness with our defense). Holding puck on the boards on the attack, shooting to the net. Forwards: Forecheck crash, puck control and clean pass. Go to the net to collect rebounds from point shot.
